SUMMER CAMP CHILDREN ADULTS SPECIAL NEEDS

Welcome to Northwest Kiwanis Camp

Northwest Kiwanis Camp opens its doors (and tent flaps) to children and adults with special needs. We are located on the Olympic Peninsula in Chimacum, Washington. The main lodge overlooks Beausite Lake and is surrounded by 50 acres of forest and meadowland.

Campers
NWKC campers range in age from 6-60 with disabilities that include but not limited to Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Hunter Syndrome, Traumatic Brain Injury, Wolf-Hirschhorn and other physical and/or developmental handicaps.

Staff
The quality and enthusiasm of our staff is at the core of our success and the reason for the campers’ jubilant return year after year. We have a Nurse Practitioner or Registered Nurse on staff 24 hours per day and we strive to maintain a staff to camper ratio of 1:1. Our staff and counselors participate in training workshops to insure they are fully versed in the needs of our campers and have the skills needed to meet our high standards. All staff must pass a background check and be certified in basic first-aid.

Program
Camp activities Along with arts & crafts, recreational activities include fishing, swimming, horseback riding and a field trip to the Marine Science Center at Fort Worden. Local musicians and entertainers provide campfire entertainment.

A MUST HAVE BOOK FOR YOUR LIBRARY!
People Who Raised Me Beyond is the autobiography of Dr. Kristin M. Rytter who grew up with severe disabilities and no speech. The book is an inspiration to everyone and should be read by all.  You'll experience a full range of emotions as Kristin shares the good times and the bad, and like me, will shed many misconceptions about  individuals with disabilities. Visit the News Section for information on how to order her book.
